Shannon Nicholson was a standout pitcher for the Illinois State softball team from 2004-07. An Easton Second-Team All-America selection in 2007, Nicholson was also a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree in her senior season (2007). She became just the second Illinois State female student-athlete in school history to win both the ISU Female Student-Athlete and Female Athlete of the Year Awards in the same year, a feat she accomplished in 2007.
After graduating from Illinois State in December 2007, Nicholson stayed on with the ISU softball program as a student-assistant coach, a position she currently holds as she earns her master's degree in sport management. She was also signed by the Akron Racers of the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) league. This summer, Nicholson has agreed to provide GoRedbirds.com with a weekly blog that will give Redbird Athletics fans an inside look at how she is doing with Akron in the professional softball ranks.
