WILLEMSTAD, Curacao - The Illinois State softball team continued its stretch of eight games against Curacaoan competition with two more victories, knocking off both Soto CMTC and Pichingolo for the second-straight night. The Redbirds won the first game, 9-0, and defeated 33-time defending Curacao champion Pichingolo, 7-0, in game two.

Eight of nine Redbird position players scored in the first game, with Elizabeth Kay crossing the plate twice. Kay scored the game's first run on an error by Soto to put the Redbirds on top. The 1-0 score held until the third, when six-straight Redbirds reached base to push across six runs. Kay, Erin Rodriguez, Brittny Drish, Molly Cull, Hayley Marlier and Kolby Hoffman all drove in runs with two outs in the inning to give ISU a 7-0 advantage. Hoffman rounded out the scoring with a two-run homer to deep center field in the fifth inning.

Erin Rodriguez went the distance for the Redbirds in the circle, striking out six Soto players.

Another freshman pitcher, Regan Romshek, tossed a shutout in game two. Romshek surrendered just two hits to Pichingolo, while striking out five in the Redbird win.

ISU jumped out to a quick start offensively in the game, scoring three times in the first inning. Lauren Kellear doubled to lead off the game, eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Sara Bradley brought home Jhavon Hamilton and Kay with a single to put the Redbirds up 3-0.

The Redbirds extended the lead to 4-0 on a RBI groundout from Nichelle Harrison in the fourth inning. ISU added three more runs in the fifth inning, with Kay driving home Hamilton to make it 5-0. Stephanie Gallant followed with a solo home run, before Lindsey Greene drove home Bradley with a single to round out the scoring.

The Redbirds will enjoy on off day on the island Tuesday before getting back into softball action Wednesday. ISU will host a clinic before playing two more games Wednesday night. Internet connectivity permitting, the games will be streamed on the WJBC/COUNTRY Financial Illinois State Radio Network.
