ISU Softball Set for Doubleheader with NPF All-Stars
Oct. 3, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State softball team will conclude its fall schedule by taking on a team of all-stars from the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league in a doubleheader Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Corn Crib in Normal. The games will start at 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., with a pregame clinic for girls softball teams purchasing 20 or more tickets
"Anytime you can get in to a competitive environment like this is an honor and a great chance to learn from what you go against," head coach Melinda Fischer added. "I think this will certainly be great information to take with us as we then go in to our winter training."
This is the third-straight year that a team of representatives from all four NPF teams (Akron Racers, Chicago Bandits, Carolina Diamonds and USSSA Pride) have traveled the country playing against college opponents. This year's tour makes 21 stops across 16 states in a 40-day span. The Back to School Tour is sponsored by the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), with the support of Major League Baseball.
The Redbirds are coming off of a 3-1 weekend at the Illinois Collegiate Softball Championship in Normal. ISU defeated Illinois-Springfield and SIU Edwardsville on day one of the tournament and knocked off Southern Illinois on day two to reach the title game, where they fell to DePaul 8-5.
The Redbirds also participated in fall scrimmages against Heartland, Sept. 12, and Lake Land, Sept. 19. After the games with the NPF all-starts, ISU will have completed its eight-game fall schedule.
The games will be broadcasted on GoRedbirds.com as part of the WJBC/Country Financial Illinois State Radio Network.
Box Seat tickets are $8 each for groups of 20 or more, $10 each in advance and $11 each day-of-game. Tickets can be purchased in-person at The Corn Crib Box Office, by calling (309) 454-2255 (BALL) or online anytime at http://www.normalbaseball.com.
