Gorrell Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District V First Team

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State senior catcher Casey Gorrell was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Softball First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. Gorrell was one of five Missouri Valley Conference softball players named to the District V team.
Gorrell batted .291 (44-151) in her final season with six doubles, nine home runs and 24 RBI. She had a .510 slugging percentage and a .395 on-base percentage. She had seven multi-hit games on the year, including a 4-for-5 performance with five RBI against UNC-Greensboro. Gorrell started all 50 games behind the plate for the Redbirds, recording a .993 fielding percentage and throwing out 73.2 percent of would-be base stealers (11-30).
The Olathe, Kan., native has a 3.44 grade-point average (GPA) in deaf and hard of hearing education. She has been named to the AFNI Athletics Honor Roll every semester at Illinois State.
Gorrell was the only catcher selected to the first team and is in contention for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be selected in the coming weeks. To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least a 3.30, be a starter or important reserve on her team and be a at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.
