March 28, 2011
ST. LOUIS - Illinois State sophomore Elizabeth Kay was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after her performance last weekend at Wichita State.
Kay powered the Redbird offense against the Shockers, going 3-for-6 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's doubleheader. The sophomore catcher hit a solo blast to left center in the opener, before delivering a two-run shot that put ISU ahead, 2-0, in the fourth in game two. Kay is now tied for the team lead with six homers and ranks second on the squad with 20 RBI. The Bartlett, Ill., native is hitting .455 and slugging 1.000 in Valley games so far this season.
Kay and the Redbirds will return to the diamond this weekend when they host MVC foe Missouri State at Marian Kneer Stadium for a three-game set beginning Saturday at 12 p.m.
