Snow Forces Cancellation of ISU-Western Kentucky Series
March 8, 2008
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Due to a heavy snowfall that blanketed the Bowling Green, Ky., area with up to five inches of snow Friday night, the Illinois State softball team's three-game non-conference series against Western Kentucky, originally scheduled for a single game Saturday and a doubleheader Sunday, has been cancelled and will not be made up.
The series cancellation marks the first Illinois State since April 12, 2007, when the Redbirds' single game against Northern Illinois at the Redbird Softball Complex was called off due to sub-freezing temperatures in the Bloomington-Normal, Ill., area.
Hoping to avoid last season's wintery conditions that wreaked havoc on its non-conference game against Northern Illinois, the Redbirds will open their 2008 home season Tuesday with a doubleheader against the Huskies. First pitch from the Redbird Softball Complex is slated for 2 p.m.
