Vote for Rachel Here

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State sophomore forward Rachel Tejada is one of 37 finalists for the 2012 Soccer News Net College Boot award, which recognizes the women's college player of the year. Fan voting makes up 40 percent, and is open through Dec. 15.

Tejada was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second-straight season, after totaling 46 points on 18 goals and 10 assists. The Troy, Ill., native ranks top-seven nationally in goals (seventh), goals per game (sixth with 0.90), points (sixth) and points per game (fifth with 2.3). She also leads the MVC in all of those categories.

Tejada has already made her mark on the ISU record books through just two seasons. She ranks second all-time in points (97), goals (39) and assists (19). Her 21 goals as a freshman in 2011 also broke the ISU and MVC single-season high.

The editors of each of the sites in the Soccer News Net network, Big Apple Soccer, Chicagoland Soccer News, LA Soccer News, New England Soccer News, Philly Soccer News and Dallas Soccer News, nominated up to four local players for the award, each of which will be eligible for the regional player of the year award. The nominations included athletes playing at colleges within each site's coverage area, as well as athletes from the area playing collegiately elsewhere in the country. Nine additional at-large selections rounded out the nominations. The other three finalists from the Chicagoland site are Illinois' Vanessa DiBernardo, Marquette's Aly Miller and Notre Dame's Cari Roccaro.

The remaining 60 percent of the vote will be cast by the Soccer News Net editorial staff. The winner of the popular vote will receive the Soccer News Net Supporter's Choice Award.

The Redbirds recently finished their second-straight 13-win season and NCAA Tournament appearance. After defeating Indiana State, 5-1, Nov. 4 in the MVC Tournament championship match, ISU's season ended with a 3-0 loss at fourth-seeded Marquette Nov. 10 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
