Stinson Named MVC Good Neighbor Recipient

ST. LOUIS - Sophomore soccer player Anna Stinson was honored by the Missouri Valley Conference by being selected as a recipient for the MVC State Farm Good Neighbor Award. Ten student-athletes were selected for the award by Commissioner Doug Elgin for the 2011 fall season.

Stinson was an All-MVC First Team selection after finishing the season with 19 points on five goals and nine assists, and earned spots on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team and CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District V Second Team for her efforts in the classroom. The Kalamzoo, Mich., native owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) and has served her community by organizing donations to the Midwest Food Bank and the Home Sweet Home Mission. She also participates in the "Recess Buddies" and "Just Read!" programs at local elementary schools, and speaks to local high school athletes as part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

In addition to Stinson, this year's fall honorees include: Shelby Cron, Evansville, Women's Cross Country, Jr.; Bryan Hoie, Creighton, Men's Soccer, Sr.; Samantha Shukla, Wichita State, Women's Cross Country, So.; Michael Lahart, Drake, Football, Sr.; Ashley Mason, Missouri State, Volleyball, RSo.; Lauren Blumhorst, Southern Illinois, Volleyball, Sr.; Taylor Hancock, Indiana State, Women's Soccer, Jr.; Genevieve Dejean, Bradley, Volleyball, Sr.; Benjamin Boothby, Northern Iowa, Football, Sr.

In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport during the season of recognition. The Valley recognizes 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring) for a total of 30 honorees.
