NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State soccer junior Rachel Tejada is one of 36 finalists nationally for the Soccer News Net College Boot award, which recognizes the women's college player of the year. Online fan voting, open through Dec. 18, will account for 40-percent of the total toward the award.

Tejada, a finalist for this award last season as well, earned her third-straight Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honor after leading the conference with 42 points on 15 goals and a league-best 12 assists, which is also a single-season ISU record. She also ranks among the national leaders in numerous offensive categories, including assists (10th), points (13th) and goals (22nd).

Tejada's 139-career points (54 goals, 31 assists) are the most in MVC history. She is also the program's all-time assists leader, and is five goals shy of the league- and program-record of 59. Tejada will enter the 2014 leader as the active career leader in points and goals for all of NCAA Division I.

The editors of each of the sites in the Soccer News Net network (Big Apple, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, New England, D.C., and Florida) nominated up to four local players for the award, each of which will be eligible for the regional player of the year designation. The nominations included athletes playing at colleges within each site's coverage area, as well as athletes from the area playing collegiately elsewhere in the country. Nine additional at-large selections, which included Tejada, rounded out the nominations.

The remaining 60-percent of the vote will be cast by the Soccer News Net editorial staff. The winner of the popular vote will receive the Soccer News Net Supporter's Choice Award.

Tejada and the Redbirds recently concluded the most successful season in program-history with a 3-0 second-round NCAA Tournament loss at third-seeded and 11th-ranked Michigan, Friday. The Redbirds won both the MVC regular-season and tournament titles, going a combined 8-0 against Valley foes, tied a program-record with 14 wins, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program-history by getting past Louisville in penalty kicks, Nov. 16.
