ST. LOUIS - Illinois State soccer players claimed three of four weekly awards given by the Missouri Valley Conference Tuesday afternoon. Senior Jessica Carlson earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades, junior Kristin Cooley garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors and freshman Rachel Tejada received Newcomer of the Week recognition.

Carlson scored a goal and recorded an assist in Illinois State's 8-1 win over Creighton last Thursday to become ISU's new single-season record holder for assists with eight. The Darien, Ill., native secured the record by assisting junior Kelly Rosenthal's goal in the 41st minute and raised her career assist total to 20. On the season, Carlson has accumulated 20 points on six goals and eight assists.

Cooley was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, after recording three points on a goal and an assist in Thursday's victory over the Bluejays. The multiple-point effort was her second of the season and lifted her season totals to two goals, three assists and seven points. Her assist came via a free kick from 25 yards out in the 10th minute for the Redbirds' first goal, and she later scored on a rebound off of a corner kick in the 15th minute.

Tejada was selected as the Newcomer of the Week for the sixth time this season after her three-point performance against Creighton. The freshman forward assisted on a goal from sophomore Kyla Cross in the 15th minute and later scored a goal of her own in the 49th minute. Her three points in the contest gave her 42 for the season and made her ISU's single-season points leader, as she surpassed the previous record mark of 41 set by ISU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Annie Wayland in 2000. Tejada has now netted goals in five-straight games and is just two shy of Wayland's single-season record of 20.

The Redbirds will open State Farm MVC Tournament play Friday when they take on Evansville in the first of two semifinal contests.
