Valley Weekly Release

ST. LOUIS - Junior forward Rachel Tejada is the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, while sophomore back Abby Van Deventer is the MVC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Their selections are the eighth and ninth by the Valley of a Redbird this season.

Tejada totaled eight points on three goals and two assists during the Redbirds' two wins over Northern Iowa and Evansville last week to earn the 14th weekly award of her career. Against the Panthers, Thursday, she scored two goals and added an assist in ISU's 5-0 victory. Then, on Sunday against the Purple Aces, Tejada scored once, tallied an assist, and fired a career-high 10 shots in the 4-0 win. Tejada's 31 points, 12 goals and seven assists all lead the MVC.

Already the program's all-time leader with 26-career assists, Tejada moved into first place atop the all-time points list with 128 after her three-point performance against UE, and is four shy of the all-time Valley mark. She ranks second in program- and Valley-history with 51 goals, eight shy of the all-time mark held by Annie Wayland. Tejada is also the active career leader in NCAA Division I for points per game (2.33) and goals per game (0.93).

Van Deventer anchored an Illinois State defense that posted two shutouts last week, its second- and third-straight, by starting and playing all 90 minutes in both matches. In the win over UNI, Van Deventer led a back line that limited the Panthers to just five shots. Then, in the triumph over Evansville, Van Deventer and her teammates surrendered just eight shots, including only two in the second half. Van Deventer also chipped in offensively in Sunday's victory, tallying her first point of the season with an assist. Van Deventer has played all 90 minutes in 11-straight games, a stretch during which ISU is 8-3 and has allowed 0.91 goals per game.

The Redbirds welcome Drake to Adelaide Street Field, Sunday at 1 p.m., for their final home match of the season. ISU can clinch the regular-season Valley title with a victory.
