ST LOUIS - Following her program-record four-goal performance in the Redbirds' 9-2 victory over Indiana State Oct. 14, Illinois State junior Kyla Cross has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Cross' selection is the fifth time in nine weeks that a Redbird has won the award, with Rachel Tejada taking home three and Rachel Bostick one. Aryn Newsom also won the season's first Goalkeeper of the Week award.

Cross' first goal came in the 45th minute as the second half wound down. She secured her own rebound after a shot and put it past the Indiana State keeper, extending ISU's lead to 4-1. Her scoring barrage continued in the 72nd minute, as Cross put home a rebound from a Bostick header to make it 6-1 Illinois State. Cross secured the hat trick four minutes later, when she converted a feed from Kayla Campbell to make the score 7-2 in the 76th minute. Then, Cross got in behind the Sycamore defense on a through ball from Ali Farkos in the 84th minute, finishing the play with the record-setting goal.

Making the feat more impressive is the fact that Cross only played 34 minutes in the game, and didn't even start.

Her outburst was the highest individual-game total in the MVC this season, while Cross became just the seventh person nationally to score at least four goals in one game this season. She ranks second on the team with seven goals this season, while the four goals moved her in to a tie for fifth on the program's all-time list with 16.

Cross also had a solid performance in the Redbirds' loss against Northern Iowa Wednesday, Oct. 10, registering two shots and one of only three ISU shots on goal in the 2-1 loss.

Cross and the Redbirds will conclude their four-game home stand Sunday, Oct. 21 against Missouri State at 1 p.m. Then, they will conclude the regular season Thursday, Oct. 25, with a 6 p.m., kick-off at Drake.
