NORMAL, Ill. - Sophomore Rachel Tejada won her second-consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week award after her four-goal and one-assist performance over the weekend at the Embassy Suites Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. Tejada now has seven goals on the season, putting her five clear of the closest MVC player.

The Troy, Ill., native scored twice in both the Redbirds' 7-0 victory over Florida Atlantic and 2-2 draw with Florida Gulf Coast. Tejada tallied once in each half against the Owls and also added an assist on an Abby Van Deventer goal. Against the Eagles, Tejada brought ISU back from a 2-0 second-half deficit by scoring twice in a span of seven minutes to even the match. She was named the tournament's MVP and was selected to the all-tournament team, along with Kristin Cooley, Kyla Cross and Van Deventer.

Tejada leads nearly every offensive category in the MVC through the first two weeks of play, including shots (16), shots per game (4.00), points (15), points per game (3.75), goals (7) and goals per game (1.75). The NCAA has yet to compile season statistics.

Tejada now has 28-career goals, moving her within one of Jess Carlson, who is second on the program's all-time list. She also sits in third place on the career points list with 66. Her start is the fastest in program history. The previous high through four matches was five, set by Tejada last season and Annie Wayland, the program's all-time leading goal-scorer, in 1999. Dating back to last season, Tejada has scored at least one goal in 11 of the past 12 Redbird matches. The squad is 9-1-2 during that stretch.

Rachel wasn't the only Tejada to earn MVC honors this week. Her older brother, Jared, is a forward for SIUE and was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer after scoring two game-winning goals at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokies Invitational.

Tejada and the Redbirds return to action 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31, at Northern Illinois. They then welcome Western Michigan to Adelaide Street Field Sunday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m.
