Redbird Soccer Schedule Adjusted
June 11, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - One game has been added to the 2013 Illinois State soccer schedule, while another has been shifted to a different date, as announced by seventh-year head coach Drew Roff Tuesday.
ISU will take on 2012 Sweet 16 participant Marquette, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m at Adelaide Street Field, in a rematch of their NCAA Tournament meeting last season, which the Golden Eagles won, 3-0. Additionally, the game against Saint Louis originally slated for Sept. 29 will now be played Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
The addition brings the total number of games scheduled to 18 for the defending Missouri Valley Conference Tournament-champion Redbirds, including 12 non-conference contests. Of the 12 non-Valley games, five of them will be against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams, and seven against BCS conference schools.
Illinois State will begin its two-game exhibition schedule Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Eastern Michigan, before two home pre-season contests at Adelaide Street Field. The regular-season opener is Friday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m., as the Redbirds welcome defending MAC champion Miami (Ohio) to Adelaide Street Field.
The Redbirds reached the 13-win mark and NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season in 2012, going 13-5-2 before the aforementioned loss to the fourth-seeded Golden Eagles. ISU returns eight starters from last year's squad, including two-time MVC Player of the Year Rachel Tejada and two-time All-MVC First Team choice Anna Stinson.
