ISU Soccer Adds Illinois to Fall Schedule
June 5, 2009
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's soccer team will now open its regular season against Illinois Aug. 21 at 7p.m., in Champaign, Ill., as head coach Drew Roff announced a schedule change to the 2009 season Friday. The exhibition game at UW-Milwaukee, originally scheduled for that date, will be moved up to Aug. 11 at 7 p.m.
"We always try to challenge ourselves with tough competition in pre-conference play," said Roff. "Illinois is a tough competitor, and the game will help us see how we stack up against NCAA tournament participants. It will be a fun way to start the season, and it will be a great test for the team before we play a tournament in Las Vegas."
Illinois made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008, where it lost, 3-0, to North Carolina to finish the season 12-9-2.
The 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Co-Regular Season Champions, Illinois State, ended the season with an overall record of 11-8-1.
The season opener will mark the first time the two teams have played each other since Sept. 16, 2005, when Illinois State fell to Illinois, 3-0. The Illini lead the all-time series record, 5-2-1, against the Redbirds.
