May 18, 2010
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head soccer coach Drew Roff announced the addition of Mara Kremenovic to the Redbird roster for the 2010 season. Kremenovic signed on to play soccer for the Redbirds and will be attending Illinois State as a sophomore in the fall of 2010. Kremenovic and eight other Redbird freshmen will join with the returning 17 players to make a 26-player roster.
Coach Roff looks forward to the experience that Kremenovic will bring to the Redbirds.
"We are very excited to have Mara joining the program," Roff said. "She has a lot of experience, and has a year of collegiate and national experience and knowledge under her belt. We're expecting her to come in and compete for a starting role right away, and we feel that she has all of the tools necessary to be a leader in the backfield."
Kremenovic was a member of Team Ontario (2004-08), the West Rouge Storm soccer club and the Serbian National Soccer Team (2010). She also attended Cape Breton University Nova Scotia in Sydney, Canada, where she was a starter for the soccer team her freshman year.
Kremenovic was a member of the Silverthorn Collegiate Institute soccer team that was named the West Region Champions her sophomore and junior year. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player her sophomore and junior year and was also a team captain all four years. Kremenovic started and played every game of her high school career and was named Academic All-Candian and Special Honours English in 2010, as well as on her high school's honor-roll from 2005-09.
Kremenovic will join the Redbirds on campus on August 4th, as the team will begin preparation for the preseason.
