NORMAL, Ill. - Redbird Jess Carlson, with an assist from Mary Sahm, scored the lone goal to help the Illinois State women's soccer team defeat Eastern Illinois, 1-0, Saturday at Adelaide Street Field.

"I thought it was a very solid performance overall," said head coach Drew Roff. We did a nice job of maintaining possession throughout the game and that allowed us to dictate the tempo and play in their end throughout. It was nice to see Mary Sahm and Jess Carlson connect on another goal, and I thought Ruthie Zemke and Afton Delvecchio did a very nice job stepping in and distributing the ball in the midfield. Possessing the ball successfully is always a goal of ours, and we did that very well. In order to take that next step as a team, we need to make sure that we get more out of our possession to ultimately create more scoring chances. Becoming more efficient in the attacking third will allow us to really put pressure on our opponents, which is something we will continue to emphasize throughout the spring."

With the victory, the Redbirds improve their spring season record to 2-0-1.

The Redbirds will continue their spring schedule Saturday (April 4) at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis, where they will play IUPUI at 5 p.m.
