Illinois State Soccer Signs Seven Newcomers for 2010

NORMAL, Ill.- Illinois State women's soccer team welcomes seven new members to the team as head coach Drew Roff announced his 2010 signing day class Friday. The class consists of forwards Kyla Cross (Clinton Township, Mich.) and Kelly Kalkofen (Naperville, Ill.), forward/midfielders Mackenzie Staton (West Lafayette, Ind.) and Anna Stinson (Kalamazoo, Mich.), back Allie Newsom (Manteno, Ill.), back/midfielder Hillary Scott (Naperville, Ill.) and goal keeper Aryn Newsom (Manteno, Ill.). The group will join the three-time Missouri Valley Conference championship Redbirds and its 17 returning members from the 2010 season.

"I am very excited to officially welcome this outstanding class of seven to the Redbird soccer family. They are all from the Midwest and are products of outstanding club and high school programs. They bring the skill, speed and toughness necessary for us to continue to play an attractive attacking style. Their personalities and winning mindsets are also a great fit with our current players and I expect this group to have a major impact on our future success."

Coach Roff on Cross: "Kyla has all the tools to be an outstanding attacking player for us. She is very skillful with both feet, has great vision, and can create in the final third. She has competed at a very high level of club soccer and scores big goals in big games which is the sign of a special player. She will have the opportunity to vie for a starting position as an attacking midfielder or forward for us right away."

Coach Roff on Kalkofen: "Kelly is a very hard working, athletic frontrunner that has the speed to get in behind defenses and the toughness to get in on goal and make things happen. She has the ability to wear defenders down with a relentless mentality and has a real nose for the goal. She will challenge for playing time right away."

She has also shown the ability to score goals which makes her a great fit for us as an attacking midfielder or forward. I think she has only scratched the surface of the type of player she can become."
