Carlson Named NSCAA Scholar All-American

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Illinois State senior forward Jessica Carlson was recognized for her performances both on the pitch and in the classroom, when she was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America Third Team.
Carlson, a physical education major with a 3.87 grade-point average (GPA), helped the Redbirds to an overall record of 13-6-0, Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament championships and the best offensive season in program history. The Darien, Ill., native finished her senior campaign with seven goals and a single-season record 10 assists to earn All-MVC First Team accolades for the third time in her four-year career, and NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team honors. Carlson also earned selections on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District V Second Team and MVC Scholar-Athlete Team.
During her career as a Redbird, Carlson established new single-season and career records for assists and ranks second all-time at ISU for career goals (29), points (80) and game-winning goals (12). In 2010, Carlson became the first Illinois State soccer player to earn a first-team all-region selection.
