TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Illinois State soccer team (9-5-0, 4-1-0 MVC) won its third-straight Missouri Valley Conference match with a 4-1 victory over Indiana State (3-12-0, 0-4-0 MVC) Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, Ind.

After both teams shared possession for the first 25 minutes, Illinois State broke through with its first goal in the 28th minute. Sophomore Anna Stinson collected a clearance at the left corner of the 18-yard box, made a turn and fired a shot into top-right corner for her third goal of the season.

Freshman Rachel Tejada added a second goal for the Redbirds just seconds before the halftime whistle. Tejada collected a loose ball in the middle of the field 25 yards out and made quick shot with her left foot that beat Indiana State goalkeeper Emily Lahay and struck the back of the net. The goal was Tejada's 16th of the year and her 36th point.

"It looked like we were going to go into the half, 1-0, and Rachel turned and hit a left-footed bomb that is one of the nicest goals you are going to see," head coach Drew Roff said. "She just ripped it and it really set the tone for the rest of the game."

Indiana State quickly regained the momentum in the second half, scoring less than three minutes into the second half. Jessica Rosenberg broke free after a cross from Alexandra Rodas and finished from close range to halve the Redbird advantage.

"We started off the second half a little slow, but I give Indiana State credit though, they really pushed in those first 15 minutes," Roff said. "We have a few lapses and gave up the goal, but I like how we rebounded from it and I give Anna Stinson a lot of credit, she was a big difference maker for us today."

Illinois State responded with a goal in the 59th minute from senior Jessica Carlson. Sophomore Kyla Cross played a ball to the feet of Tejada on the right side of the box, before Tejada delivered a pass to Carlson, who was making a run down the middle of the box, for an easy finish.

Stinson sealed the game in the 65th minute, after she blasted a shot from the left side of the box inside the back post to give the Redbirds a 4-1 lead. The goal was the fourth of the season for Stinson and marked her first two-goal match of the 2011 campaign.

"What I liked about tonight is that our strong-attacking personality players really came to play," Roff said. "When some parts of our game weren't quite as sharp and we lacked composure, they made some special plays up there. If there was one thing we did well tonight, it was finish."

Redshirt freshman Aryn Newsom made a trio of saves and allowed just one goal in her 82 minutes between the posts to pick up her seven win of the year and lower her goals against average to 1.22.

Illinois State will return to the pitch Sunday, Oct. 23 when it hosts nationally-ranked Milwaukee in its final non-conference contest of the season.
