Oct. 8, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics schedule for the 2013 season was finalized Monday, according to head coach Bob Conkling. The team will compete in nine meets, including four home meets and two tournaments. The Redbirds open the season with a home meet against Lindenwood Friday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m.

"I'm excited about this season, and I think we've got a good, but tough schedule," Conkling said. "We have three big meets this season, including the Chicago Style meet, a dual home meet against Ohio State and another dual meet against Denver. We expect tough competition at all three of these meets as well as the whole season."

Two days later, the Redbirds will head up north to Northern Illinois for a dual meet Sunday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. Two weeks later, Illinois State will host its second home meet against Illinois-Chicago. On February 2, the Redbirds will travel north to compete at the Illinois versus Michigan Classic, hosted by Illinois-Chicago.

This year, the team will compete at the Chicago Style meet at Navy Pier. It is the largest women's gymnastics invitational in the world. Illinois State will compete against Arizona, Pittsburgh and Texas Women's. The largest gymnastics competition in the world will kick off with the collegiate meet Friday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m.

The Redbirds will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on SEMO Sunday, Feb. 15, at 6:30 p.m. SEMO will then travel to Illinois State the following week for the third home meet of the season. The last home meet will be against Ohio State, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 3, at 4 p.m. Before the two tournaments, the Redbirds will head to Denver for their last meet.

The team will compete in two tournaments to end the season with the first being the Illinois Classic, which will be hosted by Illinois-Chicago, March 16, in Chicago, Ill. The second tournament will be the Midwest Independent Conference meet, hosted by Centenary, March 23.
