Genereux, King head to Oklahoma for the NCAA Regional
April 3, 2013
King and Genereux made appearances at the NCAA Regional last season hosted by Illinois in Champaign, Ill. as well. Genereux finished in 13th place all-around with a score of 38.625 and King placed 16th as a freshman with the all-around score of 38.450.
"Both Sami and Kim have trained well this entire season and deserve this honor to represent Illinois State at Regionals," said head coach Bob Conkling. "During the past two weeks of workouts, we have focused on polishing up the small details of each routine. All of their routines are looking strong right now and I feel that they are both confident and ready to compete at the NCAA Regionals".
King won the all-around title at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships two weekends ago with a career-best all-around score of 39.325. She started the season off strong by being named the MIC Gymnast of the Week and has been a solid competitor for the ISU gymnastics team at every meet. Genereux tied for sixth place in the all-around with a score of 38.950 at the MIC Championships. She was also a strong competitor for the Redbirds this season.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Los Angeles, April 19-21, hosted by UCLA. In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
King will be rotating with Oklahoma, ranked second in the nation and Genereux will be rotating with Washington, ranked 22nd in the nation.
Fox Sports Southwest+ will televise the meet live. A live broadcast with split screens for each event will also be available at ncaa.com/liveschedule.
