NORMAL, Ill. -The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Chicago to take on Illinois-Chicago, Southeast Missouri State, Centenary, and Woman's Texas Saturday March 24, at 7:30 pm for the Midwest Independent Conference Championship meet.

Head Coach Bob Conkling is feels confident taking on the MIC rivals.

"The team's confidence level is very high right now," said Conkling. "We made 24 of 24 routines last weekend and they have looked really good in workouts this week. I think we will hit our routines. But everyone in the conference is good this year, so I think the winner of the meet is the team that will hit their routines the best. It should be a very close and exciting competition."

The Redbirds took third last week at the Illinois State Classic with a team score of 194.350. Ahead of Illinois State were Illinois (196.150) and Illinois-Chicago (194.550), and Northern placed fourth, respectively with a score of 193.050.

Junior Kim Genereux led the Redbirds a performance earning her MIC Gymnast of the Week. Genereux placed second on uneven bars with a career-high score of 9.850. Sophomore Elise Gray placed second on vault, tying her career best score of 9.800. Freshman Samantha King tied for third on the balance beam, with a score of 9.750, alongside teammate Melissa Mann.
