Illinois State Gymnastics to Compete at Annual Illinois Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team will compete at the Illinois Classic this Saturday night at 5 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.

"We are looking forward to competing in the annual Illinois Classic," said head coach Bob Conkling. "This quad meet is always a strong event with the four universities in Illinois, that have a women's gymnastics program participating. We have already faced Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinois, but have not competed against the University of Illinois this season."

Last week, Illinois State went up against No. 13 Denver and Arizona State. The University of Denver placed first a team with a 197.200. Arizona State University totaled a 195.675, placing second and Illinois State placed third with a 194.275.

Sophomore Sami King led the Redbirds with an all-around score of 39.325, placing second. She placed first on the balance beam with a personal best 9.900.

Kim Genereux also had a strong meet posting solid scores. Genereux had the highest uneven bars score for the Redbirds with a 9.775. She placed third in the all-around competition.

"Our goal remains the same for this meet which is to focus on consistency and remain positive throughout the competition," said Conkling.

The Illinois State gymnastics team will compete at the MIC Championships on March 23 in Shreveport, La.
