Redbirds Recognize the Senior Class at Their Last Home Meet of the Season
March 3, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State gymnastics team will say goodbye to their seniors as they compete in their last home meet of the 2012 season on Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m.
Head coach Bob Conkling expresses sadness in saying farewell to the senior gymnasts.
"Just like every year, it is always hard to say goodbye to the senior class," said Conkling. "These three gymnasts have been great student-athletes, and have represented Illinois State very well the past four or five years. I know each of them will be successful in the future."
Last week, the team fell to Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State, with a final score of 194.375-193.650.
Despite the loss, Illinois State established many team and individual records during the meet, including the all time team vault score, with a score of 48.750. Junior Kim Genereux led the Redbirds, finished in first place in the all-around competition with a final score of 39.125.
Conkling is confident the team will have another outstanding meet on Sunday.
"I think we have shown that we really do not have a weak event this year," said Conkling. "I expect that the team will put together a very strong meet on all 4 events."
Seniors Hannah Meyer, Melissa Mann, and Robin Weissman will be recognized at the meet for their dedication and commitment to the team for their college careers. The meet will be streamed live online at redbird All-Access, Illinois State Athletics' internet multimedia platform. Live meet coverage from Horton Field House begins promptly at 2 p.m.
