NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team will take on Southeast Missouri State again this weekend on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. in Horton Field House.

"We are very excited to compete against SEMO this weekend," said head coach Bob Conkling. "They are a strong team and last week's competition at SEMO was a lot closer than the scored showed."

The Redbirds took on the Redhawks last Friday during a dual meet. Illinois State won with a team score of 193.425. SEMO fell short with a team score of 192.875.

Senior Kim Genereux led the Redbirds with a second place all-around score of 38.875. She also scored above a 9.625 on each event. Genereux placed second on the floor exercise with a 9.775.

Also helping the Redbirds were teammates Sami King and Tori Sarantakis. King and Sarantakis both competed in the all-around and placed third and fourth, respectively. King scored a 9.825 on the balance beam, placing first. King tied with teammate Jenna Bossle for second on the uneven bars with a 9.800.

SEMO was led by Taryn Vanderpool who won the all-around with a 39.025. Megan Fosnow placed fifth in the all-around following behind Tori Sarantakis with a 38.650.

"We look to continue to improve on each of the four events this competition," said Conkling. "If our workouts this week are any indication, we should have a much stronger showing this meet."

The Redbirds will welcome all youth gymnasts from local gyms to "Future Stars Night" to cheer on the Illinois State gymnastics team this Sunday. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
