NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team will look to defeat a conference foe when it takes on Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State Friday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

"We are very excited to compete against SEMO, one of our conference teams," said head coach Bob Conkling. "This will be the first time that we see them this year. The gymnasts have had some minor injuries and because of that we will see some new faces in line-up and are excited to see them compete. Our focus for this meet is to just do the gymnastics that we practice every day in the gym and to have fun doing it."

Last weekend the Redbirds placed fourth out of four teams at the Chicago Style gymnastics meet, despite some good performances. No. 13 Arizona led the meet with a score of 195.950.

The Redbirds were strong on the vault and scored a team score of 48.675. Elise Gray scored a 9.850, followed by Sami King who scored a 9.800. The gymnasts were also strong on the balance beam and improved tremendously since the beginning of the season. Sami King scored a 9.775, followed by teammate Tori Sarantakis, who posted a 9.725.

The Illinois State gymnastics team will also take on SEMO Feb. 24 at home in the Horton Field House.

The meet will be held in SEMO's Parker Gymnasium starting at 6:30 p.m. The gymnastics meet will also be broadcast live on KFVS12.com.
