NORMAL, Ill.- The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Chicago, Ill. to take on No. 13 Arizona, Texas Women's and Pittsburgh Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The 15th annual Illinois Gymnastics Institute (IGI) Chicago Style gymnastics meet is the largest women's gymnastics invitational in the world. This will be the Redbirds first appearance in the NCAA quad meet. The host gym, IGI, will welcome back former gymnasts Apollonia Barrientos, Elise Gray and Kristen Lieberman.

"We are really looking forward to the Chicago Style meet," said head coach Bob Conkling. "It is exciting to compete against Arizona, TWU and Pittsburgh. Arizona is ranked 13th in the country. It will be nice to see how we compare to a team ranked that high. Also, TWU is in our conference and this is the only time we see them this season until the Midwest Independent Conference."

The Redbirds placed second last week in the third-annual Illinois/Michigan meet, with a season-high team score of 194.100. Central Michigan led the meet with a 195.875. Eastern Michigan and UIC earned third and fourth place respectively, with scores of 192.850 and 192.800.

Junior Elise Gray placed first on the vault, posting a career-high score of 9.925, while sophomore Sami King placed first on the balance beam with a score of 9.875. King also finished first in the all-around competition, scoring a career-high 39.225.

The Redbirds are hoping to keep their scores consistent this Friday.

"Our main goal for this meet is to do six solid routines on all four events. If we can do this, we will count the meet as a success no matter what the scores or what place we will take," Conkling said.

The meet will be held at Chicago's historic Navy Pier, starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15.00 and tickets will be available after 4 p.m. on Feb. 8.
