NORMAL, Ill. - After a short week of practice, the Illinois State gymnastics team (3-6) will travel to La-Crosse, Wis., Friday to take on host Wisconsin La-Crosse and Winona State. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The Redbirds enter Friday's meet with wins over Sacramento State and California last week. The `Birds had been struggling to maintain their consistency through all four events early in the season, but after gaining two wins in California, the student-athletes feel more confident in their routines.

Head Coach Bob Conkling feels his team is ready to compete at La-Crosse despite a shortened week of practice.

"The trip to California took a lot out of the girls," said Conkling. "It was a good trip in a lot of ways, but an exhausting one for the athletes. During practice yesterday the team was a little sluggish, but they pushed through it. I was really happy with the way practice went."

The Redbirds have made a few line-up changes for Friday's competition. Senior Meaghan Koshman will only compete on the vault due to minor soreness in her legs. Sophomore Robin Weissman will not be competing on the uneven bars due to a sore shoulder. Conkling feels this meet is a good time to rest a few of the gymnasts who are a little worn down.

In last Friday's meet against Sacramento State, the Redbirds scored a 192.825 which was enough to give them their highest final team score of the season. The Redbirds also captured team-highs on the balance beam with a score of 48.450 and floor routine with a 48.675 during Sunday's meet at California.

After last week's meets, the Redbirds moved up through the GymInfo rankings. The Redbirds are ranked second in the Midwest Independent Conference on the balance beam and for the floor exercise with an average of 47.895 and a 48.195, respectively. The Redbirds are also in the top-three on vault with a 48.110.
