For the second time in five days, the Illinois State gymnastics team will square off against Ball State, Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. when the Redbirds travel to Muncie, Ind. to face the Cardinals.

Friday's meet will be the second of the back-to-back series against Ball State. The Cardinals traveled to Illinois State Sunday, where the Redbirds won by a score of 190.850-186.300.

Head coach Bob Conkling is confident the Redbirds will perform stronger than last week.

"The team has been focusing on cleaning up the routines and being more focused on improving their performance levels," Conkling said. "I expect to see improvement on vault and floor, and I anticipate balance beam and uneven bars to be strong events for us this week."

The balance beam was a strong event for the Redbirds last week, scoring a team total of 48.050. Senior Melissa Mann led the way, placing first, with a score of 9.775. Freshman Sami King had an outstanding performance in her first collegiate meet. King earned a first place finish in the all-around competition with a score of 38.300. King also placed third on the uneven bars (9.575), and third on the balance beam (9.650), which earned her Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week honors.

Junior Tori Sarantakis also had a strong performance at the meet, taking second in the all-around competition, with a score of 37.850. Sarantakis placed second on vault, earning a score of 9.625, to highlight her all-around performance.
