NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State gymnastics team took second against No. 18 Ohio State at their last home meet of the 2013 season this Sunday night.

The Ohio State gymnastics team posted a 195.950. Illinois State followed that with a 192.775.

"We had to make a lot of adjustments this week," Conkling said. "Amanda Mohler could not compete bars or beam because we needed to rest her. We also had to take Kim Caron out of the bars and floor line-up because she had a minor shoulder problem. This affected the bars team score. We did okay on the other three events, but we still need to step it up as a team."

Sophomore Sami King led the Redbirds tonight placing third in the all-around competition with a 38.850. She placed first on the uneven bars with a score of 9.825 and also placed first on the floor exercise with a 9.875.

Following Sami King was senior Kim Genereux. She placed fourth in the all-around competition with a 38.725. Teammate Tori Sarantakis placed fifth in the all-around with a 38.575.

The Redbird gymnasts honored their seniors Apollonia "Apples" Barrientos, Kim Genereux, Tori Sarantakis, Chelsie Seplowin and Marissa Stom at the conclusion of the meet.

"Unfortunately, Sami King fell on vault and scored a 9.275 on that event, which affected her all-around score. Her other three scores were huge, with her placing first on bars and floor against Ohio State."

The Redbirds will hit the road to take on Denver in Denver, Colo. next Saturday, Mar. 9 at 6:00 p.m. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
