NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State posted a season-high team score, 192.600, in a win Sunday afternoon over Winona State and Wisconsin-Oshkosh in front of a crowd of nearly 400 in Horton Field House.

The Redbirds took the lead from the first rotation and never looked back, posting the highest team score on all four events. The vault proved to be the strongest scoring event for the `Birds (48.500) followed by the balance beam (48.175), the floor exercise (48.050) and the uneven bars (47.875).

The athletes' consistent performances on all four events were what head coach Bob Conkling prepared the team for.

"Even more than the win, I liked how good the team performed on all events tonight," Conkling said. "There were a few mistakes in the routines, but it was nothing that can't be fixed. I'm very happy with all the performances tonight, especially the improvements made on the balance beam and uneven bars."

The Redbirds took the top-three scores on every individual event and junior Erica Schick placed first in the all-around. Freshman Kim Genereux made her first appearance competing for the Redbirds and placed second on the uneven bars (9.600) and was in a three-way tie for second on the floor exercise (9.700). Hannah Deutsch and Melissa Mann scored season-bests on the balance beam with scores of 9.825 and 9.800, respectively.

"I couldn't have asked more from the team tonight," Conkling said. "The athletes kept positive energy throughout the entire meet and even though the meet wasn't perfect, it was pretty close to it. I'm excited to see carry on this energy into the next competition."

The Redbirds return to action Friday, February 5, 2010 when they host Ball State in Horton Field House beginning at 7 p.m.
