Melissa Mann Placed First on Balance Beam

Final Stats

The Illinois State gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 193.625 against Michigan State Saturday night at Jenison Field House.

The Redbirds were defeated by the Spartans, who scored 194.400, despite multiple career high scores from Illinois State. The team posted season-high team scores on uneven bars (48.575), balance beam (48.450) and floor exercise (48.400).

Senior Melissa Mann led the Redbirds on beam, with a career-high score of 9.825. Junior Tori Sarantakis placed third on balance beam with a career-high score of 9.725.

Freshman Sami King continues to show improvement as an all-around competitor. King placed second in the all-around event, with a career-high score of 38.650. King followed Michigan State's Dani Levy (38.675) by a .025 point difference.

Head Coach Bob Conkling was happy with the team's performance as a whole.

"The team did very well tonight," said Conkling. "Everyone had strong performances. And as a coach, I know the team is capable of more. It is always great to score a season high, and I was really happy to see the improvement we were hoping for."
