NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State gymnastics team posted a 192.200-186.775 victory over Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State Saturday night in historic Horton Field House.

Freshman Sami King led the Redbirds with a first place in the all-around competition, posting a career high score of 38.600. King earned a third-place finish on the uneven bars, with a career high score of 9.650. King placed second in both the balance beam (9.650) and floor exercise (9.725).

Head coach Bob Conkling is ecstatic to see continuous improvement from King.

"She (Sami) keeps improving and she just performs fantastic," said Conkling. "She is such an elegant gymnast. The judges like her, the coaches like her, the audience likes her. You just can't lose with Sami King."

The Redbirds started the meet strong on vault posting a team score of 48.375. Sophomore Elise Gray led the Redbirds placing first, with a personal best score of 9.800.

"It was great to see Elise perform a vault routine to the best of her ability tonight," said Conkling. "Coming back from an injury, she is just finally starting to perform routines she is truly capable of."

Junior Marissa Stom was victorious on balance beam, posting a career high score of 9.675. Stom also earned a career high score of 9.700 on floor exercise, which earned her a third-place finish.
