NORMAL, Ill. - Head women's golf coach Darby Sligh signed two golfers to National Letters of Intent as announced Tuesday. Both Abby Luchtenburg and Kiley Walsh signed NLI's to continue their athletic and academic careers at Illinois State.

The Illinois State women's golf team will graduate three seniors at the end of the 2013-14 season, and Luchtenburg and Walsh will be looked upon to make a large impact on the returning roster.

Abby Luchtenburg // Geneva, Ill. // Geneva High School

Notable: Ranked in the top-40 AJGA National rankings class of 2014, after she averaged a score of 79.3 strokes per round ... was also the 2012 second flight Western Women's Golf Association champion her senior year.

Coach Sligh's point of view: "Abby is just the spark this team needs, bringing to us unwavering positivity, passion, and an incredible work ethic. These characteristics are the foundation of Redbird golf, and she embodies them to the fullest. She will become a leader of this team on the course and in the community by continuing to raise the confidence and spirits of those around her."

Kiley Walsh // Mount Prospect, Ill. // Prospect High School

Notable: Led her team to a state championship her senior year, only the second in the school's long history ... also holds the distinction of being undefeated in conference matches, as she went 66-0 her entire high school career ... named all-conference each year... is also the recipient of the Knightship Leadership Award, recognizing her for her role as a team leader on and off the course.

Coach Sligh's point of view: "Kiley is a game changer. Not only is she one of the top students I have ever recruited, but she has flourished in her career in national, regional and state wide competition, helping her team to four-straight conference championships and two Class AA State Championships, while also participating in some of the top-junior tournaments in the country. She has proven that she knows how to help teams win."
