Oct. 12, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Florence, Ind., to compete in the three-round Johnie Imes Invitational, its fifth tournament of the season and marking the end of fall season. Play will resume for the redbirds in February in warmer, southern states. The first day of the Hooiser Fall Invitational will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, while the final round will be played Sunday at 9 a.m. Belterra Resort, the site of the tournament, is a 6,910-yard, par-71 configuration
Head Coach Darby Sligh looks forward to the last tournament of the fall and hopes to create some momentum.
"I'm looking forward to watching us bring all the hard work together into this final event of the fall," Sligh explained. "This is a fantastic layout, and one that the girls really feel sets up well for them. I want to see a lot of heart out there so that we may use the momentum heading into the spring season."
Senior Katie Jean looks to continue her success of the season, coming off of a top-ten finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational (Oct. 1-2). Jean has finished in the top-ten in all four tournaments she has played in this season, averaging a score of 222.3, and has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week twice.
Others competing for the Redbirds will be junior Rachel Powers, who finished a season-best 13th at the Johnie Imes Invitational. Junior Jordyn Wyzgowski, sophomore Hayley Guyton and freshman Courtnee Cossell will round out the Redbird lineup. Competing as an individual will be junior Carlee Cossell.
The Redbirds will compete against 11 other teams, including Augusta State, Ball State, Boston College, Delaware, East Tennessee State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin
