Jean Earns Third Golfer of the Week Honor

Oct. 3, 2012

ST. LOUIS - Senior Katie Jean was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for her top-10 finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational with a 220 (73-73-74), as announced by the league office Wednesday. It is the third time this season and the second-straight week that Jean has received the accolade.

She previously earned the award Sept. 13, after winning individual medalist honors at the Redbird Invitational with an impressive performance of 218 (70-75-73), and on Sept. 26 for her ninth-place finish at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational with a final score of 231 (81-74-76).

Jean continued her stellar season by finishing in the top-10 for the fourth-consecutive tournament, as she led the Illinois State women's golf team in three rounds of play at the Johnie Imes Invitational. Jean finished in 10th with a four-over-par performance. Jean's top-10 performance led the team to a tie for 10th place with a team score of 916 (302-306-308). The Redbirds placed higher than Valley foes Missouri State, Bradley and Wichita State in the tournament, which played host to numerous top-100 ranked teams.

Earning the honor on the men's side was Missouri State's Daily Young. This marks the second-consecutive week that both Jean and Young have been selected as MVC Golfers of the Week.

Jean and the women's golf team will have 10 days off, before returning to the course at the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 13-14, in Florence, Ind. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
