Normal, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will look to continue its consistent early season play as the Redbirds head to the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas State, Monday and Tuesday Oct. 1-2.

The Redbirds will be led by junior co-captains Marci Hill and Tiffany Hockensmith. Hill leads the Redbirds with a 76.6 scoring average and Hockensmith is getting back to form as one of the Missouri Valley Conference's top players following back-to-back rounds in the 70's at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup.

Also competing for Illinois State are sophomores Stacey Miller and Britt Knutson, and true freshman Terra Miller, all coming off final rounds in the 70's last weekend in Kentucky.

"This is another great opportunity for us," said head coach Darby Sligh. "This is great golf course that will really challenge us. A course like this can really level the playing field. We have to be patient and make good decisions to keep big numbers off the scoreboard."

Colbert Hills Golf Course plays host to the 10-team, 54-hole Sunflower Invitational. Located in Manhattan, Kan. the par 72, 6,157-yard course has been ranked nationally in the top-10 for college courses by both Golfweek and Golf Digest.

The tournament gets underway Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The first 36 holes will be played Monday, concluding with the final 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
