Redbirds Head to Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup
Sept. 18, 2009
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State women's golf will continue its fall season at the two-day Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup Sept. 21-22. The tournament will be held at the Cardinal Club in Louisville, Ky., with 36-holes to be played on Monday and a final 18-holes on Tuesday.
Stacey Miller and Laura Harris hope to continue their successful start to the season after tying for ninth place at the Chip-N-Club Invitational last week, while leading the team to a sixth place finish. In addition to Miller and Harris, the Redbird line-up will consist of Christine Larson, Marisa Milligan and junior Terra Miller.
"After a solid start to the season in Nebraska, I think that everyone is excited to get back on the road," head coach Darby Sligh said. "We have a very experienced squad, including four seniors and a junior. With a line-up of veterans, I'm expecting big things. This team needs someone to step up in the four and five spot to create more depth, so I'm looking for that to happen this week."
The 12-team field will begin play with a shot-gun start at 8:15 am on both Monday and Tuesday.
In addition to Illinois State, participants for the 2009 Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup include Akron (MAC), BYU (Mountain West), Cincinnati (Big East), Eastern Kentucky (Sunbelt), Kentucky (SEC), Louisville (Big East), Maryland (ACC), Missouri (Big 12), Morehead State (Ohio Valley), South Florida (Big East) and Southern Mississippi (Conference USA).
"We have played the Cardinal Club well in the past, and I believe we are prepared for three solid rounds," added Sligh.
