Jean and Guyton Named WGCA All-American Scholars
July 1, 2013
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) is 3.50, as 644 women's golfers from Division I, II and III were recognized with the prestigious honor.
Jean, a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete, had a stellar senior season, as she led the Illinois State women's golf team in every regular-season tournament. She capped off the 2012-13 season by leading the Redbirds to a first-place finish at the Valley Championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional. Illinois State's conference victory marked the 13th time the Redbirds have won a MVC Championship and the fifth championship in the last six seasons. With her second-consecutive individual championship, Jean became the sixth player in Valley history to win the award twice. For her performances on the course throughout the 2012-13 season, Jean was named the Valley Golfer of the Year.
Jean's first-place finish at the 2013 MVC Championship earned her the Elite 18 Award for the third-consecutive season. The Elite 18 award is presented to the golfer who holds the highest grade-point average among the tournament's top-18 finishers. Jean ended the 2013-14 season with a season stroke average of 76.7 in 36 rounds. The actuarial science major has a cumulative GPA of 3.85.
Guyton competed in every tournament for the Redbirds, playing 36 rounds during the 2012-13 season. Guyton had a season stroke average of 81.6 and had a career-best three-round score of 235 (80-82-73) at the Indiana Invitational. She shot a season-best low round of 72 at the Hoosier Fall Invitational during the second round of the three-round tournament. Guyton holds a cumulative GPA of 3.58 in marketing.
