Jean, Miller Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

NORMAL, Ill. - In honor of their performances on the course and in the classroom, senior Terra Miller and junior Katie Jean were honored by the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday. Jean was named to the scholar-athlete team and Miller received honorable mention recognition.

Jean entered the MVC tournament with a team-leading 4.0 grade-point-average (GPA) with a major in auctorial science. She carded a scoring average of 78.9 through 26 rounds during the season and has had 14 rounds in the 70s. Jean had her best tournament at the Redbird Invitational, where she placed tied for sixth place after a three-round 228 (73-79-76). Her low round of the season (72) came at the UCF Challenge.

Jean also received the MVC Elite-18 Award, after competing in the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference with the highest GPA. At the championship Jean tied for 18th place with a two-round 157 (81-76).

Miller was one of five to receive honorable mention, after participating in the MVC Championship and and in honor of her 3.39 GPA in public relations.

Miller entered the MVC Tournament with a scoring average of 78.9 through 26 rounds this season. She has had 15 rounds in the 70s this season and had her best tournament at the Redbirds Invitational, where she placed tied for sixth after a three-round 228 (79-75-74). Her low round of the season (72) came at the Eagle Landing Invitational.

Miller finished the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference in second place with a two-round 145 (75-70), awarding her a position on the all-conference team.

Jean and Miller join the Redbirds in Notre Dame, Ind., as the Illinois State women's golf team represents the MVC at the NCAA Central Regional, May 5-7.
