NORMAL, Ill. – For the second-consecutive year, Illinois State junior golfer Katie Jean was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced by the league office Friday.
Possessing a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0 in mathematics, Jean was one of seven players named to the first-team. Jean and Missouri State’s Kelsey Welber were the only unanimous selections.
“I feel honored to be named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team,” Jean said. “All the girls on this team work hard on the course and in the classroom, and so it is an honor to be in the same category as them.”
Jean’s award follows a first-place finish at the 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship, where she was the recipient of the Elite 18 Award for the second-consecutive season. The Elite 18 award is presented to the golfer who holds the highest grade-point average among the tournament’s top-18 finishers.
