Jean Tied for First Place in Day Two of MVC Championship

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. - The Illinois State women's golf team was once again led by senior Katie Jean Monday at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. Jean finished with a two-round score of 151 (77-74), which put her in a tie for first place on the individual leaderboard.
The Redbirds finished the day in fifth place with a team score of 650 (335-317), while Wichita State continues to lead the field with a team score of 642 (325-317) at the Club at Porto Cima.
Head women's golf coach Darby Sligh wants to see more from her team in the final round.
"We didn't quite bring it Monday like we knew we needed to, but we aren't out of it, especially with the weather coming in," Sligh said. "We will have to play well tomorrow, but we have made moves in the past so we will be ready. Katie (Jean) played brilliantly down the stretch and put herself in position to defend her title. Tuesday should be an exciting finish in cold and rainy conditions."
Sophomore Hayley Guyton carded a solid contribution, finishing in a tie for fifth place with a score of 158 (80-78). In a tie for 21st, junior Rachel Powers holds a score of 167 (86-81). Tied for 35th, junior Jordyn Wyzgowski recorded a two-round score of 174 (90-84) and junior Carlee Cossell posted a score of 176 (90-86).
The final round of the tournament is will begin Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. start.
