NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women’s golf team will compete in the 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship April 22-24, at the Country Club of Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Ind. The Redbirds will look for an unprecedented fifth-consecutive Valley championship.

Head women’s golf coach Darby Sligh expects her squad to be competitive.

“It is an honorable experience to be able to lead this team into the Missouri Valley Conference Championship with a chance to defend our fourth-consecutive title,” Sligh said. “Win or lose, this team has already made history and that's something they can always take with them. I want to be able to walk away from this event having left every ounce of our hearts on the course. This Valley field is strong, but we are most definitely prepared.”

Competing for the Redbirds will be senior Hannah Bachman, junior Katie Jean and sophomores Brianna Cooper, Rachel Powers and Jordyn Wyzgowski.

Illinois State was tabbed in a recent coach’s poll to finish fourth in the tournament. In the same poll, Missouri State was the unanimous selection to win the tournament.

The 54-hole tournament will begin Sunday morning, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
