Women's Golf Ready for MVC Championship

NORMAL, Ill - The Illinois State women?s golf team will compete in the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Championship April 21-24, at the Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo. The Redbirds will look for an unprecedented fifth Valley championship in the last six years.

Head women?s golf coach Darby Sligh believes it will an exciting championship.

"This is it," Sligh said. "We have been preparing for this opportunity since last April, and we are ready to start work Sunday during the practice round. This should be an exciting championship, there are quite a few teams that can contend, and it will take a total team effort to pull out a victory."

Competing for the Redbirds will be senior Katie Jean, juniors Rachel Powers, Jordyn Wyzgowski and Carlee Cossell, Sophomore Hayley Guyton and freshman Courtnee Cossell.

Illinois State was tabbed in a recent coach?s poll to finish second in the tournament. In the same poll, Missouri State was selected to win the tournament.

The 54-hole tournament will begin Sunday morning, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
