Jean Finishes in Top-5 at Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Katie Jean continued her dominant season by finishing in the top-five for the second time this season, as she led the Illinois State women's golf team in the final round of play Sunday at the Indiana Invitational. Jean finished tied for third with a 7-over-par performance223 (76-75-72) at the par-72 Indiana University Golf Course.
The Redbirds completed the two-day invitational in sixth place with a team score of 928 (314-314-300). Indiana won the tournament with a team score of 890.
Junior Rachel Powers also contributed an impressive performance. Powers shot a three-round score of 232 (77-78-77), finishing tied for 23rd place on the individual leaderboard.
Head Coach Darby Sligh is pleased with her teams progression.
"We had a great step in the right direction," Sligh explained. "Katie had another great finish and Hayley (Guyton) really stepped up for us in this final round. This is the momentum builder we were looking for heading into the Missouri Valley Conference tournament this coming weekend, and we have a big week of preparation ahead of us."
Rounding out the Redbird lineup was sophomore Hayley Guyton with a score of 235 (80-82-73), followed by junior Jordyn Wyzgowski with a score of 241 (81-82-78) and junior Carlee Cossell with a three-round score of 247 (86-79-82). Freshman Courtnee Cossell, who competed as an individual, finished with a score of 246 (84-84-78).
The post season starts for the Redbirds Sunday, April 21, as they try to improve on their second-place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference tournament last season.
