Jean Finishes in Top-Ten at Day One of Indiana Invitational
April 13, 2013
Bloomington, Ind. - Senior Katie Jean led the Illinois State women's golf team in two rounds of play Saturday in Bloomington, Ind., at the Indiana Invitational. Even with the windy conditions, Jean finished the day with an impressive score of 151 (76-75) finishing tied for eighth place at the par-72 Indiana University Golf Course. Jean is five-strokes behind the leader.
The Redbirds ended the day in seventh place with a team score of 628 (314-314). ISU is 33 strokes out of first place.
Head Coach Darby Sligh hopes her team comes out focused in the final round of play.
"We are desperately trying to find some momentum leading up to next week's Missouri Valley Conference tournament and the wind really stifled some of our attempts to do so," Sligh explained. "It is my hope that this team goes out Sunday with light hearts and focused minds. It seems the harder we try to break through the more we fall short, so staying patient and determined should serve us well."
Junior Rachel Powers also contributed another noteworthy performance. Powers shot a two-round score of 155 (77-78), finishing tied for 18th place on the individual leaderboard.
Rounding out the Redbird lineup was sophomore Hayley Guyton with a score of 162 (80-82), followed by junior Jordyn Wyzgowski with a score of 163 (81-82) and Carlee Carlee Cossell with a day one score of 165 (86-79). Freshman Courtnee Cossell competed as an individual and carded a score of 168 (84-84).
The Redbirds will be back on the course for the final round of play Sunday at 8:30 a.m..
