Women's Golf Set to Compete at Indiana Invitational

April 12, 2013

NORMAL, Ill - The Illinois State women's golf team will compete in its last tournament of the regular season Saturday and Sunday at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., hosted by Indiana. In the 54-hole tournament at the Indiana University Golf Course, the Redbirds will face off against a 12-team field, including Missouri Valley Conference foes Bradley and Evansville.

ISU finished in 15th place at the Pinehurst Challenge (April 1-2) and head women's golf coach Darby Sligh wants her team to finish the regular season strong.

"We are looking to end this regular season on a solid note," Sligh said. "We have taken advantage of the nicer weather and are gaining momentum heading into this weekend. This course sets up well for us and has a feel reminiscent of our home course, Weibring, so that should aid in building additional confidence."

Senior Katie Jean will lead the Redbird lineup, as she earned Valley Golfer of the Week honors for her fourth time this season. Jean finished 19th at the Pinehurst Challenge (April 1-2) with a three-round score of 228 (73-78-77).

Also competing for Illinois State will be juniors Rachel Powers and Carlee Cossell, along with sophomore Hayley Guyton and junior Jordyn Wyzgowski. Freshman Courtnee Cossell will compete as an individual.

Besides competing against Bradley and Evansville, the Redbirds will also go up against Akron, Ball State, Dayton, Drake, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Kansas, Southern Illinois, Toledo and Valparaiso
