ISU Women's Golf Team Announces New Recruit

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team added another member to its 2008-09 recruiting class with the signing of Jackie Leonard, (Streator, Ill./Streator High School) who's eligibility will begin in the fall.

ISU head women's golf coach Darby Sligh is excited to work with the new recruit and has high expectations for the newest Redbird once she joins the team.

"We are very excited to have Jackie join the Redbird family," Sligh said. "She is bringing national experience and a wealth of raw talent to the team. She will add more depth to our already strong team. We are pleased and excited to have her."

A native of Streator, Ill., Leonard will graduate from Streator High School in May. She will be a true freshman during the 2008-09 season. Leonard has qualified for two national events during her golf career. The national events were the Big "I" and the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship.

She also won the 2007 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Regional at Ironwood Golf Course, shooting a 71.

Leonard is a two-time winner of the Country Youth Classic, which was hosted in Bloomington, Ill. Her accomplishments do not end there. Leonard also placed 10th in the Illinois Junior Girls Championship and she has three top-10 finishes in the Pepsi Little People Golf Tournament in Quincy, Ill.

Leonard is the second edition to the 2008-09 recruiting class.
