Jean Posts a Top-20 Finish at the Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, NC - he Illinois State women's golf team finished the final day of play at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C., finishing in 15th place with a team score of 956 (310-323-323).

"This finish is clearly not what we were looking for, but we have to push through this and try and see it for what it's worth," head coach Darby Sligh said. "Katie (Jean) was able to finish with another top-20 performance, Carlee (Cossell) really came through for us, and overall our ball striking was much better than past weeks. Moving forward, these next two weeks are huge for us. Our spirits remain high despite falling short of our expectations, because we know what this team is capable of."

Katie Jean led the Redbirds throughout the tournament and finished in a tie for 19th place with a three-round score of 228 (73-78-77). Rachel Powers carded a final score of 243 (79-80-84), 15 strokes behind Jean, and ended the invitational in a tie for 75th place. Carlee Cossell fired a 54-hole score of 244 (85-81-78), while Hayley Guyton finished with a final score of 246 (76-86-84). Rounding out the top-five was Jordyn Wyzgowski, who tallied a total of 253 (82-84-87).

Richmond won the team title after three rounds with a team score of 899 (296-298-305). Charleston finished second as a team with a 903 (294-303-306), while Penn State had a final-team score of 904 (300-303-301), giving it a third-place finish.



ISU will return to action at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The two-day event will begin on April 13.
